Supervision as a Supervisee: What I Wish I Had Known
Know your rights, understand your contract, and get the supervision you actually deserve.
Course Overview
Most trainings on supervision are created for supervisors, but what about you? This course gives supervisees the essential knowledge they need to navigate their supervisory relationships with confidence, clarity, and a clear understanding of their rights.
Course Description:
Most trainings on supervision are created for supervisors. However, supervisees can benefit from knowing the basics of supervision as they begin their first, fifth, or fifteenth supervisory relationship. Key is the supervision contract, which explains the expectations of both supervisor and supervisee. The Supervisee Bill of Rights and Responsibilities can clarify the imbalance in the supervisory relationship. And if supervisees know the Criteria for Minimally Adequate Supervision, they will hopefully prevent, avoid, or stop harmful and inadequate supervision.
Learning Objectives:
- Recall supervisees' expectations related to supervision contracts.
- Understand key aspects of the Supervisee Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.
- Apply Criteria for Minimally Adequate Supervision to supervision experiences.
This Course Is For You If…
- You're entering your first (or a new) supervisory relationship and want to know what to expect before you start.
- You've never been clearly told your rights and responsibilities as a supervisee and you want that clarity now.
- You've experienced supervision that felt off or inadequate and want to understand what "good supervision" is actually supposed to be like.
- You want to be a more empowered, informed participant in your own professional development and licensure journey.
What You'll Take Away
Dana M. Cea (she/they)
As a counselor educator and Qualified Supervisor, Dana has seen the supervisory relationship from both sides of the table. She knows that supervisees often enter their first relationships without a clear picture of their rights or what adequate supervision is even supposed to look like. Through this training, Dana shares the foundational knowledge she wishes every supervisee had before they needed it most.
