Addressing Mental Health for LGBTQ+ Youth
Practical, affirming strategies for supporting LGBTQ+ youth mental health—at home, at school, and in the therapy room.
Course Overview
LGBTQ+ youth face elevated rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidality—often shaped by family rejection, school environments, and a lack of affirming spaces. This course gives clinicians, educators, and youth-serving professionals a grounded understanding of these risk factors alongside practical, affirming strategies to support LGBTQ+ youth mental health.
Course Description:
For half of individuals with mental health disorders, they experienced their first symptoms before the age of 18. LGBTQ+ youth experience additional risk factors for developing mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, thoughts of suicide, and suicide attempts.
