Making the Intake Process Neurodivergent Affirming and Accessible
For neurodivergent clients, the intake process can be so overwhelming they never make it through the door. Learn practical adjustments that lower barriers and help more clients access your care.
Course Overview
The intake process can be a significant barrier for neurodivergent clients before they ever set foot in a session. This training covers what makes intake overwhelming, specific adjustments to make it more affirming, and practical accessibility strategies you can start implementing right away. Includes a free referral needs note template.
Course Description:
From the client perspective, the intake process starts with how they reach out to us the first time. From there clients will be completing paperwork and attending the assessment session(s). Clients may also be learning a new telehealth platform or how to access a new office. For neurodivergent clients this can so be overwhelming that they may not finish or even start the process. How can we increase the chances that potential neurodivergent clients will reach out? How can we decrease barriers to clients finishing the intake process? This training will briefly discuss the key aspects of the intake process. Then, adjustments to make the intake process affirming for neurodivergent clients will be covered. Finally, strategies to improve the accessibility of the intake process for neurodivergent clients will be shared.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe at least three key aspects of the intake process
- Apply about four adjustments that make the intake process affirming for neurodivergent clients
- Utilize at least two strategies to improve the accessibility of the intake process for neurodivergent clients

- You want concrete, practical adjustments — not a complete overhaul — to make your intake process more affirming and accessible
- You're committed to reducing friction for clients before they ever sit down in a session with you
