Ethical Guardrails for Supervision

Protecting clients, supervisees, and supervisory integrity

---COURSE OVERVIEW---

Course Overview

Clear boundaries are the foundation of ethical supervision — but identifying, teaching, and holding them takes more than good intentions. This on-demand training explores common boundary challenges in supervisory relationships, scope-of-practice issues, and how supervisors can model and reinforce ethical decision-making with their supervisees.

Course Description:
This training equips supervisors with a clearer framework for identifying and addressing boundary challenges — both in their own supervisory relationships and in the clinical work of their supervisees. We examine scope-of-practice concerns, early warning indicators for boundary erosion, and practical strategies for teaching ethical decision-making in a way that protects clients, supervisees, and supervisory integrity.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify about four common boundary challenges that arise in supervisory relationships and understand their potential impact on clients and supervisees.
  • Apply at least two strategies for addressing supervisee boundary crossings in a way that is both direct and supportive of the supervisory relationship.
  • Assess scope-of-competence concerns in supervisee practice and implement about three early intervention approaches that protect client welfare and support professional development.

  • You supervise clinicians who are working at or near the edges of their scope of practice and want better tools for identifying and responding to competence concerns early.
  • You are a supervisor or clinical educator who wants to strengthen your own ethical decision-making framework and help supervisees develop theirs.

Dana M. Cea (she/they)

PhD, MS, CRC, LCHMC, NCC, QS

Dana knows that boundary conversations in supervision can be some of the hardest — especially when there's a relationship at stake. This training is built around her belief that ethical supervision doesn't happen by accident. It requires clarity, courage, and the right tools to address concerns before they become crises. Whether you're navigating a scope-of-practice issue, a dual relationship concern, or a pattern of subtle boundary erosion, Dana's approach will help you lead those conversations with confidence and care.

"Together, we can make this field better for both clients and clinicians."
