Course Description:
Trans/ non binary folx frequently report autistic traits and are diagnosed with autism. Similarly, autistic folx are often trans/ non binary. Due to the increased intersection of these identities, mental health providers are likely to assess and/ or support autistic trans/ non binary clients. Many autism assessments and screeners were created around a gender binary, often based on biological sex. Beyond adjusting the assessment itself, providers can implement affirming intake procedures, report review sessions, and ongoing support. This training will address the intersection of autism and gender, considerations for assessing trans/ non binary adult clients for autism, and affirming action steps in supporting autistic trans/ non binary clients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recall statistics on the intersection of autism and gender
  • Apply nuances to adult autism assessments and screenings with trans/ non binary clients
  • Implement affirming practices for intake procedures, assessments, reports, and ongoing support for autistic trans/ non binary clients
