When Multicultural Isn’t Enough: Cultural Humility in Supervision

Supervisors' cultural humility has been found to lead to stronger supervisory working alliances, which in turn lead to positive supervision outcomes (Zhang et al., 2021). Just as the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies (Ratts et al., 2015) recommend we start with counselor self-awareness, cultural humility asks supervisors to reflect on themselves (Watkins et al., 2019). This training will explain the differences between cultural competencies and cultural humility, share examples of ways cultural humility can be incorporated into supervision, and explore how to assess supervisors' and supervisees' levels of cultural humility.

Registrants canceling less than two full business days prior to the first day of the event are refunded at 25% of the registration fee subject to a cancellation fee of 5% of the original purchase price, including taxes and other fees. No vouchers will be issued in lieu of a refund. Transfers/substitute(s) welcome (notify in advance of the program).

A representative will follow up on written complaints within 30 days of receiving the complaint. The following information must be included in the written complaint: (1) The name and contact information for the person making the complaint. (2) The name and contact information for the person or organization against which the complaint is made. (3) A detailed written description of the dispute, complaint, or problem. (4) Reference to the appropriate rule, standard, and/or guidelines related to the matter (if known). (5) Copies of all related correspondence, records, and other documentation. (6) Signature of the person making the complaint.
