Ew, Evaluation: Making the Most of a Miserable Task

The way you give feedback can make or break supervision — let's make it something you're actually good at.

---COURSE OVERVIEW---

Course Overview

Evaluation is one of the most important — and most avoided — parts of clinical supervision. The way you assess your supervisees and deliver feedback can either strengthen the supervisory relationship or damage it. In this on-demand training, you'll explore a range of evaluation methods, discover feedback styles that communicate clearly without causing defensiveness, and learn how to handle those harder moments when ethical concerns require you to take action.

Course Description:
This training addresses the evaluation component of clinical supervision from multiple angles. We explore the range of evaluation methods available to supervisors — including video review, live observation, and note auditing — examine how different feedback styles affect supervisee development and the supervisory relationship, and walk through how to identify and address ethical concerns when they arise. By the end of this training, participants will have a clearer sense of how to approach evaluation in a way that is fair, thorough, and relationally sound.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recall effective evaluation methods to use in supervision sessions.
  • Implement a variety of feedback styles with supervisees.
  • Apply ethical considerations to supervision.
