Course Description:
Mental health clinicians take on additional risk when they become supervisors. Supervisors much meet board requirements and ethical codes to stay compliant. They ensure the welfare of all clients is being promoted by supervisees. But how is this done? Adequate and thorough documentation of supervision sessions and discussions is completed. Review of clinical work is conducted regularly. And at times, the difficult decision to enforce remediation or begin due process (e.g., removal, complaint to board) may need to be made. In this training, best practices for documentation will be covered. Options for reviewing clinical work will be explored, and key components of remediation and due process will be explained. While this training is not intended to be legal advice, some time will be spent on explaining liabilities unique to supervision.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain at least four liability concerns unique to clinical supervision
  • Recall about five ways to decrease liability risk
  • Implement around three approaches to remediation and due process
